Defensible Space |
Defensible space: An area that has had its potential fuel modified in such a way as to create a 'shaded fuel break.' Properties that have undergone this process enjoy healthier, more pest resistant trees, and are more easily defended by firefighters during wildland fire events. Be nice to your trees, be a good neighbor, be smart. Create defensible space. |

In October of 2008, San Bernardino County adopted Ordinance 23.0304 mandating the creation of defensible space in and around the mountain communities. The Forest Care program has been altered slightly to ensure that properties that participate are in compliance with the ordinance. We urge all property owners to take advantage of this program before the grant money is gone. |
Creating defensible space is something we take very seriously. We understand wildland fire behavior, and have been designing and implementing defensible space plans for years. We can do it for you, too. Fortunately, there is a terrific program called Forest Care that refunds 75% of the cost of a professionally designed and implemented plan.
